Hulk Hogan Affiliated With Wwe Again
Hulk Hogan's place in WWE history will always rank high due to the importance he had in the company's success. Vince McMahon Jr. had to pick the right wrestler to make his top star when moving forward with his plan to expand WWE from a territory promotion to a major national brand. Hogan's run on top, Vince's vision and the risk of WrestleMania all paid off.
However, there are many things about Hogan that WWE wants the public to forget. Hogan has harmed his legacy stronger than most other former WWE stars with many bad stories or embarrassing moments associated with him. Each of the following things will not be mentioned often by WWE these days when discussing Hogan.
10 Being Removed From Tough Enough Judges
The racist tirade video of Hulk Hogan lost him many jobs for being filmed saying such disgusting things. WWE wasted no time removing Hogan from all roles they had him in just over a year after his return to the company as an ambassador.
The 2015 Tough Enough season started off with Hogan, Daniel Bryan and Paige as the judges. Hogan was removed mid-season and replaced by The Miz to try to salvage the situation. The move represents how no one wanted anything to do with Hogan despite WWE changing their mind a few years later.
9 Vince McMahon Shoot Firing Him As Mr. America
The relationship between Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon had a lot of ups and downs throughout the years. Hogan seemed to be on "good behavior" in his 2002 to 2003 return stint, putting over other wrestlers and being content away from the main event picture. However, that grew old toward the end of his run in 2003 as the Mr. America character. Hogan wanted the biggest contract in the company at the time and McMahon was livid at him. The anger saw Vince legitimately showing Mr. America unmasking to fire Hogan and end the contract talks.
8 Failed Acting Career
The massive star power of Hulk Hogan helped WWE reach new heights, but he genuinely believed he'd be able to branch out in Hollywood. Hogan wanted to reach the levels of future wrestlers The Rock, John Cena and Batista have as leading men in blockbuster films. A small but memorable appearance in Rocky 3 started the hype for Hogan's next career path. However, he took failed roles like Mr. Nanny, Santa with Muscles and a 3 Ninjas sequel, all harming his reputation. Hogan claimed that there were too many top stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone compared to The Rock's time breaking out, but it was seen as a cop out for his ego.
7 Everything About His TNA Run
WWE has mentioned TNA in some documentaries, but they tend to try to stay away from referencing the wrestlers with disappointing stints there. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff joined TNA in 2010 with the goal of taking the fight to WWE like they did with WCW. Unfortunately, all their recycled ideas flopped and just put TNA in a worse scenario. Hogan failing, taking shots at WWE, and even using his WWE Hall of Fame ring in a storyline are all things they try to avoid mentioning today.
6 Shawn Michaels Overselling Against Him
The battle of egos between Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels was almost as captivating as the match they had at SummerSlam 2005. WWE booked the first time dream match with a lot of excitement from fans curious about the bout. However, their egos came into play when Michaels wanted Hogan to lose a rematch the following month and Hogan changed his mind heading into the show. Michaels oversold all match to make Hulk look like a fool before taking the loss.
5 Ugly Departure Leaving WWE In 1993
Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon had their first ugly falling out when Hogan finally left the company in 1993. Both sides had grown tired of the other, and it was time for them to go separate ways. Hogan dropped the WWE Championship and claimed he was going to dedicate time to his acting career.
Vince didn't expect Hogan to ever join WCW after their discussions toward the end of his departure. However, Hogan would come back to the ring less than a year later taking a huge contract from WCW and creating real competition for WWE for the first time.
4 Selling For Jay Leno
WCW booked Hulk Hogan in a few weird scenarios that WWE doesn't like talking about. However, one visual will likely live on forever and came due to Hogan's need to be the biggest story in the public spotlight. Talk show host Jay Leno agreed to wrestle for WCW when teaming with Diamond Dallas Page against Hogan and Eric Bischoff. The controversial moment of the night saw Leno putting Hogan in a wrist lock and Hulk selling since he knew it would be all over television the next day. WWE has talked down about the moment when he was out of the company but likely don't want this as part of his legacy today.
3 Family Drama
Hulk Hogan's personal life entered the public eye when he received his own reality series titled Hogan Knows Best. The show focused on Hulk, his wife Linda, his son Nick growing up, and his daughter Brooke chasing a music career. However, it led to more issues coming to the forefront for the entire family. Linda leaving Hulk and having an affair with one of Brooke's former school classmates created huge stories. The divorce, Brooke's music career flopping, and Nick getting arrested all became terrible moments for Hulk.
2 Not Putting Over Bret Hart
WWE likes to treat its former faces of the company as an elite class that all had respect for each other. This true for most like The Rock, Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, but one pair had an ugly falling out. Bret Hart believed that Hulk Hogan was told to put him over at SummerSlam 1993 for the WWE Championship on his way out of the company. Hogan instead chose to lose to Yokozuna two months later and felt Bret was too small. The story showed Hulk's ego on full display, and Hart still trashes him in interviews to this day.
1 Getting Booed At WrestleMania 37
The controversial decision to bring Hulk Hogan back to WWE after his racist tirade got him fired was met with mixed reactions. WWE brought Hogan back in 2018 over three years after his firing to appear at one of the Saudi Arabia shows. However, one of Hogan's bigger returns came at WrestleMania 37 in front of a large crowd with Titus O'Neil as co-hosts of the events. The audience reacted with loud boos toward Hogan and shocked WWE as they were expecting all cheers for the legend.
